10th July 2015 marks an important day in the Indian footballing calendar as ten of the most sought after homegrown talents go up for grabs in the first ever Hero Indian Super League (ISL) ‘Player Auction’. One such player in the auction list is Robin Singh, a tall and strong forward who puts defences to their knees with his physique and his ferocious left foot.Robin, who will be seen in the ISL for the first time, was visibly elated about the upcoming season. “I am honoured and excited to be part of the first Hero ISL Player Auction.” He was impressed by how the first season of the ISL had fared. “Everything about the ISL last year was amazing. I loved the crowd present at the game and the marquee players were absolutely outstanding. The ISL has put Indian football on the world map and I'd love to be a part of the revolution,” he said.A product of the famed TATA Football Academy, Robin believes that a player must do his best to adapt to a team’s style of play. “Whichever team I get included into, I would give my heart out on the field (for them). Being a professional, it’s my job to adapt to every style of play; and last season, all teams played some amazing football.”The Noida man was a crucial member of the Bengaluru FC team that won the Hero I-League in 2013-14 and finished runners-up in the 2014-15. He made his debut for the national team in 2012 and has been a regular feature in the team since then.When quizzed about who his favourite celebrity amongst the ISL team owners is, Robin revealed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni of Chennaiyin FC was someone he admired a lot. “MS Dhoni is an amazing sportsperson and a brilliant leader. There is a lot I could learn from him.”The footballer also mentioned Mumbai City FC’s Ranbir Kapoor as someone he is a huge fan of. “I would love to have the opportunity to meet him and play for his team.”Robin also believes that his physical presence and his work rate are his biggest strengths and that these skills will probably determine which ISL club he ends up playing for.With 18 caps for the national team and recent successes in the domestic league in his bag, Robin Singh will be hot property during the ISL Player Auction and it will be very interesting to see which team he is picked for.
