Feeding the fire: Top assist providers of ISL 2024-25
From pinpoint crosses to killer through balls, these five players ran the show when it came to the final pass.

The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season brought its fair share of drama, wonder goals, and wild games but amid the chaos, a few players quietly pulled the strings with pinpoint passes, killer vision and a knack for making things happen in the final third.
While goals grab the headlines, the final ball often makes the difference. And these five players dished them out all season long, slipping through balls, swinging in crosses and unlocking defences like it was second nature.
Let’s take a look at the top assist providers who lit up the league, the creators behind the chaos.
1) Connor Shields - 8 Assists
Chennaiyin FC may not have had the most consistent season, but Connor Shields was one of their brightest sparks. With eight assists to his name, the Scottish forward topped the league charts and did it with style.
Shields clocked 1,852 minutes in total, and his link-up play down the right was a constant menace. His delivery was sharp, his timing even sharper. Add to that a 76% passing accuracy and a goal of his own.
No surprise Chennaiyin FC were among the league leaders in crosses and Shields’ right-wing service was a key weapon all campaign.
2) Hugo Boumous - 7 Assists
The magician with the ball at his feet. After his switch to Odisha in July, Boumous didn’t waste time settling in and he got right to work.
Seven assists, six goals, 47 chances created, and an 83% pass accuracy. It’s what Boumous does. His ability to glide past defenders and pick the right pass is second to none and even though Odisha FC just missed out on a playoff spot, he gave them every chance to get there.
3) Alaaeddine Ajaraie - 7 Assists
When you’re the league’s top scorer, you’re already grabbing headlines. But Alaaeddine Ajaraie wasn’t just scoring for fun despite netting 23 goals. He was setting them up too.
Seven assists on top of that ridiculous goal tally is no joke. His 22% goal conversion rate proves he doesn’t need many chances and when he isn’t finishing, he’s often the one creating the opportunity. For the Highlanders, he was the one-man attacking band, turning defenders inside out and dragging his team forward week after week.
4) Jason Cummings - 6 Assists
Whether starting or coming off the bench, Cummings made an impact. The Australian forward had a solid campaign with seven goals and six assists, often linking up beautifully with Jamie Maclaren to lead MBSG’s attacking charge.
Cummings’ set-piece delivery, off-the-ball movement and quick-fire passing made him a constant threat. And in big moments, he turned up, showing composure, creativity, and leadership. His versatility gave MBSG yet another weapon in an already stacked attack, helping them cruise to the double.
5) Diego Mauricio - 6 Assists
Age was just a number for Diego Mauricio. At 33, the Brazilian forward continued to shine for Odisha FC, racking up six assists and scoring nine goals for good measure.
With over 1,400 minutes under his belt, Mauricio was once again the focal point of Odisha FC’s attacking transitions. Whether it was linking up play, holding the ball up, or sliding in the killer pass, he remained a key piece of the puzzle.
6) Adrian Luna - 6 Assists
Despite Kerala Blasters FC’s mixed fortunes this season, Adrian Luna once again proved why he’s the heartbeat of their midfield. The Uruguayan playmaker may have had a quieter campaign by his high standards, but with six assists, he still ranked among the league’s top creators. Luna wasn’t always the one arriving in the box, but he was almost always the one pulling the strings before a goal.
