The news that Brazilian legend Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as Zico, will soon be down in India to manage FC Goa in the Hero Indian Super League, has thrilled millions of football fans across the country. Most excited, however, are the FC Goa players who will enjoy the unbelievable privilege of training under the iconic former player and eminently successful manager.Reacting to the news, international winger Clifford Miranda told indiansuperleague.com on the phone from Goa, “It is a great opportunity for us to work under one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen. He is a high-profile coach who has successfully managed teams in three continents and has coached Fenerbahce (Turkey), CSKA Moscow (Russia) and Olympiacos (Greece) in Europe and taken the Japanese team to the 2006 World Cup and also won the Asian Cup with them in 2004.”Miranda, who has won 43 caps for India and is a much decorated player with several domestic and international titles in his kitty including three Nehru Cup triumphs, said it was a good opportunity to learn something new about football. Zico has a reputation of spreading improvement and introducing new systems wherever he has coached. He also added that given Zico’s reputation, FC Goa had a good chance to win the title in the inaugural year.International wing back Debabrata Roy, a senior member of the FC Goa side, who is adept at playing on both flanks, had similar sentiments, and said he was looking forward to Zico’s arrival in Goa. “I never dreamed that I would ever get a chance to play under such a legend and star player such as Zico and I am thrilled at the development,” he added.Nippy winger Gabriel Fernandes enthused that he was “very much thrilled that such a legend as Zico” would be managing FC Goa. “There are many things that he can teach us and there are many things I can learn from him,” he said, admitting that he has never seen him play but has heard a lot about his game.
