A 90th-minute strike form Lucian Goian condemned NorthEast United FC to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18. While the three points keep alive the Islanders’ hope of making it to the playoffs, the loss sees the Highlanders languishing at the bottom of the table with seven consecutive winless encounters. The visitors’ young defender Gursimrat Singh displayed a decent performance in defence and also had a hand in NorthEast’s first goal on the night. After the final whistle, the ‘ISL Emerging Player’ of the match spoke to indiansuperleague.com about the game and the mood in the camp. Here are the excerpts.

Talk us through what happened with the first goal.

It was a team effort. It was a good cross as my teammate ran for the ball and then I got the opportunity to shoot it.  It was lucky enough to get into the back of the net.

What went wrong in the end?

The last goal, I think, was my mistake as the replay will tell you. But I think it was my bad that they ran and scored. I’ll take the blame here.

What motivation does the team have right now?

Doesn’t matter in which position we are, but yes, it’s never too late to learn. So, we are learning for the next season. We’ll keep pushing ourselves and get better and better every day.

Do you enjoy playing away or at home?

It’s the same. Football is football. Home or away it doesn’t matter because everywhere you have to play football. That’s it!
