Delhi Dynamos FC travel to Guwahati to face NorthEast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Wednesday. The Lions have had a season of woes and with just two wins in their 13 matches, are rock-bottom in the league standings. Speaking to indiansuperleague.com on the eve of the encounter was their influential Spanish midfielder Edu Moya. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Could you tell us about how you started off with football?

I started football in my town when I was small and played with the rest of the children. I enjoyed the sport. You never know whether you would become a professional player, because it is not an easy career. But, I worked hard every day. And the most important thing was to enjoy the game. I started playing professional football when I was 18-19.

What would be your best footballing moment till date?

There have been different moments in my life. I remember when I played the first match in professional football.  I was 19 years old. I was very happy the day before the match, to have had the opportunity. I could not sleep. I spoke with my family and friends about this opportunity. And the same thing I felt when I played in first division. I can’t tell you one specific moment. There have been many different moments which were nice.

Which is your favourite club and player?

I love Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla. Barcelona like possession ball, Real Madrid are powerful and very good on counter-attacks. Also, I like Valencia. I know their coach Marcelino (Garcia Toral). His mentality is to work hard every day. But, I love football. Whenever possible, I watch matches on television to understand different football concept.

Who according to you is the best footballer?

For me, the best player in the world right now is (Lionel) Messi. But, when I played in La Liga in Spain, I had played against Ronaldinho. At that time, he was the best player in the world. Amazing skills and everything. For me he is better than Messi.

How are you adjusting to your coach’s style of play?

The coach (Miguel Portugal) is one of the best. We perhaps play the best football in India. But, we are a new team. We have started from zero, so it is difficult in the first season to get to the target. But I am happy because if you compare our performance now to that in September, our football as grown. The coach is very nice. He likes possession-based football. But, this year we have had bad luck in front of the goal. We have also made some individual mistakes. But, I think in the next season, Delhi Dynamos will grow more.

How has been your experience in India?

I am very happy here. The team is like my family. Everyday, the people are very good and polite with me. I have everything I need. This is my life now, in India, and they all take a lot of care for me.

What are you expecting against Northeast United FC?

I think it will be a final for both team because we are both in the same situation. For us, it will be a very good opportunity to go up in the table and I hope we get the three points.
