I will score more goals at FC Goa: Striker Alvaro Vazquez after joining the club

Spanish striker Alvaro Vazquez is confident of having a more potent season in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) with FC Goa than he had with Kerala Blasters FC last season.

The 30-year-old who has experience playing in Spain and England believes that the knowledge of the Hero ISL, gained by spending a season in the league will help him add to his tally of eight goals last season.

Vazquez joined FC Goa after his deal with Kerala Blasters FC expired suggested that the Gaurs’ keen interest in his services was key in him choosing FC Goa as his new team in Indian football.

“The truth is that I am very happy to be at FC Goa, in a place where the club really wants me to be part of their project. My contract with Kerala Blasters ended (on May 31) and Goa were very attentive,” Vazquez told The Times of India in an interview after signing for FC Goa.

The Spaniard who was wanted by the Gaurs last season before he made a move to Kerala Blasters FC was convinced by the club that their playing style would help him produce his best results on the pitch. Captain Edu Bedia took the lead in making sure that the club land their target.

“Edu was the captain (last two seasons), he is the one who dominates the team's game. I have already spoken with him and he has told me that he will provide me with a lot of assists and I will be really comfortable (at the club),” Vazquez said.

“I am here to help the club and take them higher, where they deserve to be. I have known ISL (even before coming to India) and Goa is one of the top clubs. My goal is to ensure that FC Goa fans once again enjoy seeing their club at the top,” he added.

FC Goa finished ninth in the Hero ISL last season and would be keen to get back in contention for the semi-final spots in Hero ISL 2022-23 season.

Vazquez will be a key figure if FC Goa are to restore its status as one of the strongest teams in the Hero ISL but the Spaniard is confident that he will be able to make a difference for the team.

“Last season I had several occasions that did not end up in a goal. I will score more goals to help Goa,” Vazquez said.
