Jamshedpur FC’s commanding 2-0 away win against Mumbai City FC gave a glimpse of what one can expect from Cesar Ferrando’s men this Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2018-19 season. With Tim Cahill still to come in, Jamshedpur already look like a force to be reckoned with. Next up, they travel to Bengaluru to take on Bengaluru FC on Sunday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, in what could be an interesting encounter.

Ahead of their second match of the season, indiansuperleague.com caught with Jamshedpur’s new Spanish recruit Mario Arques, who displayed a solid performance last time around and netted his club’s first goal of the new season. Here are the excerpts from the exclusive interview:

How did it feel to play your debut Hero ISL game and score in it?

The team, I think, worked very hard and we were working in the right way. I think if we continue to work in the areas that the coach wants to, we ought to get very good results and personally, I felt well. I’m catching the gist of this competition and I’m improving every day. I feel comfortable here.

Have the Spanish coach and players at Jamshedpur helped you settle better?

Yes, for us, it’s easier because he’s creating a playing style in this team and we all go together in the same direction, believing in his ideas. I think this is the most important thing and he helps us to improve every day. It’s a good start and with him, I’m pretty sure that we’ll get the goals.

Thoughts on Cesar Ferrando’s style of play.

I love this style because he wants that we take the possession and this is one of our goals. Rest with the ball, but don’t be loose with the goal in our minds.

A few words on Tim Cahill’s influence on and off the pitch.

Yeah, for us, he’s a reference. He’s a legend and we always are learning with him because he’s very very funny with us and always tries to stay with the young players and with us because he has a lot of experience. For us, it’s amazing to be here.

Are you excited for the game against Bengaluru?

Yeah, we are good. We don’t mind the names of the other team, we’re only working with our style, but it’s true that it’s going to be a very difficult match because they are a very good team. We must be humble and work very hard if we want to take something positive from them.
