Social recall: Hero ISL 2019-20 transfer window from fans’ perspective
Transfer windows always have been, are and will be, a roller coaster ride for fans.

Transfer windows always have been, are and will be, a roller coaster ride for fans. The anticipation to see new heroes come in, worrying about favourite stars leaving for pastures anew and keeping oneself grounded amidst tasty transfer rumours, make for an emotional affair for football fans. The Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 summer window was no different, with the last few months taking fans through an exhilarating trip, with its own ups and downs.
However, with the official summer transfer window having concluded, let's take a step back and recap the Hero ISL 2019-20 transfer window from the lens of the fans, with a little help from their social media chatter.
Jerry Mawhmingthanga’s move to the Delhi Dynamos FC marked the first official transfer of the season and was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm by fans.

Very good signings. We like the idea of DDFC of signing young and talented Indian players. Now we need good foreigner CF.

Jamshedpur fans, however, didn't have to mourn the loss of their speedster for too long as the management quickly unleashed a raft of new signings like Joyner Lourenco, Keegan Pereira, Piti and Noe Acosta. Key contract extensions were also handed out to Memo, Augustin Fernandes and Robin Gurung.
Haha 😆 nice 1 😉👍
— Alok Chhatry (@alok_chhatry) April 26, 2019

With their spirits high, some Jamshedpur fans were also speculating that Hero ISL legend Iain Hume might be on his way to the Furnace. The Canadian, however, quashed the rumours with a quick and witty 'nope'.
Looks like @Humey_7 maybe
— Subho (@callsubho77) April 26, 2019
Nope! #Sorry
— Iain Hume (@Humey_7) April 26, 2019
The month of May saw the Gaurs spring into action with fresh deals handed to Carlos Pena, Seriton Fernandes, Brandon Fernandes, Ahmed Jahouh, Hugo Boumous and Ferran Corominas. Each of those reveals generated considerable rush amongst the fans, who will be hoping to go the distance this time around.
The most exciting team in @IndSuperLeague has already been doing the talking through the play! We the @IndianFootball fans cant wait to see @BrandonFern10 don Blue Tigers jersey this Kings Cup!! 🙏👏 Hey @IgorStimac this is your lad 😉

Seiminlen Doungel was also brought in from Kerala Blasters to add to the buzz.
Welcome to the family welcome to FC Goa
— Abdul Raheem (@abdulraheem637) May 20, 2019
Amidst the Gaurs' march, Kerala Blasters got into the action roping in Eelco Schattorie as their new head coach and tying down Sahal Abdul Samad with a crucial contract extension.
Its a great way to start. Some good signings as well from @KeralaBlasters . We need to build a great team behind him. He should be allowed to make calls on the signings he need to make. Hope that the team puts all the bad days behind and become a formidable side once again.
— Nikhil Rajagopalan (@nikhilrgs) May 19, 2019
Nice job but please make some support signing in mid and forward so his game will give a perfect result otherwise we should again see same as last season like he will make from defence to forward and everything goes wrong after
— Jyothin Jose (@JyothinJosevth) May 11, 2019
The club from Kochi only upped the ante in the following couple of months roping in a host of top names like Bartholomew Ogbeche, Sergio Cidoncha, Mario Arques, Mouhamadou Moustapha Gning, Jairo Rodrigues, TP Rehenesh and others sending their fanbase in cloud nine.
@KeralaBlasters killing it this transfer window 💯 Welcome Sergio Cidoncha 💯 #isl #kbfc #manjappada

Kerala's traditional rivals ATK, too, flexed their muscle in the transfer market, bringing in some top names like Roy Krishna, David Williams, Carl McHugh, Michael Soosairaj and his brother Regin, Dario Vidosic and others, prompting a social media war between the fans of two teams to determine who was making the better signings.
Welcome to the family
— Diptargha🌀 (@Diptargha1) June 19, 2019

Anas Edathodika and Dheeraj Singh's move from Kerala Blasters to ATK went on to add further fuel to the rivalry.

Another big talking point making headlines on social media in June and July was Eugeneson Lyngdoh's homecoming to Bengaluru, with adoring fans welcoming back one of their own with open arms.
Welcome back @eugeneson10 once a blue always a 💙
— Nameeth (@NameethMUFC) June 17, 2019
My first instance of watching Bengaluru FC was a goal by you from a corner kick. And thereon have not missed a BFC game. Great to have you back!
— Sohanjeet Randhawa (@SohanjeetR) August 3, 2019
Mumbai City FC, meanwhile, made some smart acquisitions in Amine Chermtiti, Rowllin Borges, Serge Kevyn, Diego Carlos, Mato Grgic, and others. Modou Sougou and Paulo Machado's contract extensions further amplified the Islanders faithful's joy.
He is a good striker , with a very good experience in africa and europe. Good luck amine !! 🔥
— 𝒜𝓎𝓂𝒶𝓃 𝑅𝒾𝒽𝒶𝓃𝒾 (@AymanRihani) August 9, 2019
Nice contract extension MCFC
— Sidhant Prakash (@sidhant_prakash) July 16, 2019
Great signing jorge costa sir
— kaushalFCB (@shivshakti6666) June 19, 2019
Awesome. Now announce raynier extension!
— button (@vmj_27) June 5, 2019
However, Lucian Goian leaving to join Chennaiyin did dampen the mood for Mumbai fans a bit.
We will miss you 😢😢 . What a player he was a true fighter . Im from mumbai he was one of the greatesh defence with clean tackles. Me and friends were fearless when he was in our team . He is best defender in whole isl .love you goain ❤️❤️
— Jeet Shile (@Shile_Jeet99) July 10, 2019
While Chennaiyin fans were overjoyed with the Romanian's addition, quick departures of fan favourites Mailson Alves and Raphael Augusto did leave the Marina Machans fans somewhat crestfallen.
He gave his 100% each time he stepped on the field. Really disappointing to see him go. Thank you mailson ❤
— San (@vsandeep27) August 13, 2019
What! What are you doing @ChennaiyinFC, first Mailson and now Raphel.
— Ayush Agarwal (@AyushAg444) August 24, 2019
Why are you letting go your star players?
Augusto joining rivals Bengaluru did add to Chennaiyin fans agony and the 'shock factor' involved with the transfer even left the great Paul Masefield ‘gobsmacked’ and the banter mill spinning in full speed.
WOW !!!
— Paul Masefield (@masefield2110) August 24, 2019
Very rarely I’m Gobsmacked !!!
BUT I DIDNT SEE THIS COMING 😳
Great business from BFC
So the ‘Rolls Royce’ that left CFC earlier is back in the @IndSuperLeague with BFC
Game very much back on 👏👍
And we don't even care about what they say Cause it's ya ya ya ya.
— Harish S Itagi (@HarishSItagi) August 25, 2019
Welcome To Southern Capital Of Trophies, Raphael Augusto. 🔵💪🏻#WeAreBFC #RaphaelAugusto pic.twitter.com/mcTUGdjyQY
Bengaluru fans' subsequent joy of landing a brilliant player and getting one over their neighbouring rivals was, however, well-deserved considering the Blues' faithful had to endure watching the talismanic Miku leave the club and Xisco Hernandez join Delhi Dynamos earlier in the window.
But I was never ready for it!
— Aditya Kashyap (@adityaakashyap) July 6, 2019
Never seen a better striker in Indian football with such first touches, those turns and those bullet shots!
Thank you Miku, for everything!#WeAreBFC pic.twitter.com/Tbhx2KECcW
Gracias @xiscohm31
— Jim Roberts (@jmrbrts9491) June 26, 2019
We'll miss you...
Both Bengaluru and Chennaiyin fans, though, enjoyed a strong finish to their respective transfer windows with both sides bringing in a flurry of high-profile signings.
Waiting to watch Ashique and @UdantaK 's combination at wings. ಬೆಂಕಿ 🔥 signing for BFC.
— ಅಭಿಷೇಕ್ ಜೈನ್ (@Abhishekcnjain) August 27, 2019
Welcome to CFC. I updated the Wikipedia page 4 days before.

Looking back, the just-concluded transfer window was, perhaps the most nerve-wracking for NorthEast United FC fans. After watching key players like Ogbeche, Borges, Grgic leave in the first half of the window, had fans fearing the worse.
NorthEast United need some seriously rebuilding.
— Nicolai Nayak (@NicolaiNayak) June 6, 2019
Schattorie and Ogbeche to Kerala. Rowllin Borges to Mumbai City.
Gallego on the move next?
Things, however, took a turn for the better once World Cup bronze medallist Robert Jarni came in as the side's new head coach. The Croat's arrival was soon followed by some big announcements, including contract extensions for Federico Gallego and Jose Leudo and new incomings in the shape of Martin Chaves and Maximiliano Barreiro.
Thank you , Team. You have made us the happiest fans ever by retaining our King. The, Maestro, The Playmaker.. Federico Gallego is here to stay ❤🙏🏻
— Suravy G. (@blaugrana_su) August 9, 2019
All hail "King in the North-East" 🙌 @Fedegallego

So, which was your favourite moment from the roller coaster of a transfer window?
Note: Teams will still be able to sign free agents post the 31st August transfer window deadline.
