Bio
Attacking midfielder Leo Bertos, whose father is of Greek origin, began his career with Wellington Olympic in the New Zealand league from 1997-2000 and returned home eight years later for a six year stint with Wellington Phoenix. In between, the highly experienced Kiwi international had a five year stint in England, notably with Barnsley, Rochdale and Chester City, before moving to Perth Glory in Australia in 2006. This season, he has signed for East Bengal who have loaned him out to NorthEast United FC for a reunion with his former manager Ricki Herbert. Bertos is known for his pace, dangerous crosses and the ability to provide liberal assists.
After a stint with the national under-23 squad, Bertos made his senior international debut against Iran in 2003 and went on to earn over 50 caps. He has played in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup and made a good impact.
