Bio
Luis García is a product of the famed La Masia academy of Barcelona. He played for the Spanish giants’ B team for two seasons at the beginning of his career, before being loaned out to Real Valladolid, where he made his first-team and La Liga debut.
García had further loan spells before a permanent move to Atlético Madrid in 2002. After a successful season with the capital club, he moved back to Barcelona and was at last a regular first-team player for his boyhood club. His career-defining move came in 2004 when he signed for Liverpool, then managed by his former boss Rafa Benitez. García played 121 games for the Merseyside club, scoring 30 times, including some famous, match-winning goals. He was instrumental in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League-winning campaign in 2004-05, scoring winning goals against Juventus and Chelsea in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. His performances for Liverpool made him a fan favourite during a successful three-year spell.
García left Liverpool in 2007, moving to his former club Atlético de Madrid. He has since played for Racing de Santander, Greek giants Panathinaikos, and Mexican sides Puebla FC and Pumas UNAM.
