Marek Čech
Goalkeeper
Bio
Although Marek Čech signed for hometown club Baník Ostrava in 1990, he had to wait for many years to make his first-team debut for them, being delayed first by the mandatory two years of military service and then by loan spells for clubs in the Czech second division. He was eventually sold to Slovak powerhouse MŠK Žilina, where he was a backup goalkeeper for the club’s league championship in 2002. After another loan spell and then a permanent move to another Slovak club, Čech ended up back in his native Czech Republic, playing for Slovan Liberec. Here, he finally established himself as a first-team regular, and had an extremely successful three-year spell. He has since played for Lokomotiv Moscow, Viktoria Plzeň, and Sparta Prague, all renowned clubs in Eastern Europe.
