Uttam Rai began his footballing education in the Namchi Academy in 2007 before moving to Air Force School the following year, IMG Soccer Academy in 2010 and Colorado Rush in 2013. A clinical finisher and a constant threat around the box, Rai made his professional debut in 2015 for Goan I-League club Dempo. On as a substitute against Bengaluru FC, the 19-year-old striker took just four minutes to make his presence felt by netting the equaliser. He has also been capped at the under-14, under-16 and under-19 levels for India, scoring consistently throughout.
