Known as India’s ‘Mr Versatile’, Syed Nabi can play as a defender, midfielder or striker and has essayed all these roles with equal aplomb and has been a consistent scorer too. He is one of the most prominent figures in the senior national team and a cult figure in Kolkata. Nabi is a product of the Tata Football Academy and began his career playing as a striker. He then moved to the centre and has also played as a wingback and a left back. His first club was Mohammedan Sporting after which he served East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. After a loan stint at Mohammedan Sporting, he joined I League club Bharat FC. At the domestic level he has won several major trophies like the Federation Cup, Super Cup etc. Nabi has also been a regular fixture of the national team from 2004 to 2013.
He was a part of Mumbai City FC in the 2014 edition of Hero ISL but the local boy will be coming home to Kolkata with Atletico de Kolkata this year. Nabi played 8 matches for the Mumbai outfit last Season and notched up a goal.
