Trophy trail: Teams with most ISL silverware
We take a closer look at the teams that have collected the most ISL silverware over the years.

The Indian Super League (ISL) has grown over the years into India’s premier footballing entity and now serves as a platform for not just nurturing Indian players but also for clubs to build their legacy.
The ISL is now a marathon with two major prizes at the end – the ISL Cup and the ISL League Winners’ Shield. The latter that rewards the winners of the league stage was awarded from the 2019-20 season adding a completely new dimension to the ISL, while Cup continued to add the knockout spice to the mix.
With the ISL now over a decade old, here’s a look at the teams that have collected the most ISL silverware over the years.
1. Mohun Bagan Super Giant – 4 titles (2 Cups, 2 Shields)
Mohun Bagan Super Giant hit the ground running in the ISL, finishing second in the league and reaching the ISL Cup final in their very first season in 2020-21. Even though silverware eluded them in their first two campaigns, the Mariners kept knocking on the door with their immense consistency and broke their duck in the 2022-23 season beating Bengaluru FC on penalties in the Cup final. Building on that success, Mohun Bagan Super Giant claimed the League Shield success in 2023-24, pipping their nemesis Mumbai City FC on the final day before going a step further in 2024-25 and winning the League and Cup double.
The Mariners just edge Mumbai City to the top spot thanks to an additional appearance in the ISL Cup finals.
2. Mumbai City FC – 4 titles (2 Cups, 2 Shields)
One of the most consistent teams in the ISL in recent years, Mumbai City FC’s two League Shields (2020–21, 2022–23) and two ISL Cups (2020–21, 2023–24) showcase balance between their ability to thrive in both league and knockout football.
With a blend of top Indian and foreign players, the Islanders haven’t just accumulated silverware but have created a distinct identity on the field setting a benchmark for the league with their brand of assertive and attractive football.
3. ATK FC – 3 titles (3 Cups)
ATK FC was the powerhouse in the ISL in its early years. Their three ISL Cups (2014, 2016, 2019–20) showcased their ability to turn up in big moments. The Kolkata giants didn’t top the table in the league stages in each of these seasons when they won the ISL Cup, but rose to the occasion when it mattered the most. Their victory over Kerala Blasters FC in the 2016 ISL final in Kochi stands out, as they overcame the hosts’ massive home support to come out on top.
- Chennaiyin FC – 2 titles (2 Cups)
Chennaiyin FC’s two ISL Cups (2015, 2017–18) came in contrasting styles – one built on flamboyance, the other on grit. The Marina Machans were the early ISL’s great entertainers, capable of chaos and brilliance in equal measure.
The Marina Machans also reached the final in 2019-20 after a remarkable turnaround midway through the season but lost out to ATK FC. Chennaiyin FC have failed to match that level of success in the second half of their decade in the ISL but remain ambitious as ever in their chase for silverware.
- FC Goa – 1 title (1 Shield)
In 2019–20, FC Goa became the first club to win the ISL League Winners’ Shield, symbolising their consistency and attacking flair. Though the ISL Cup still eludes them, FC Goa’s bold, possession-driven football has set tactical trends that shaped a lot of other teams’ approaches on the field.
The Gaurs narrowly lost the ISL Cup finals in 2015 (against Chennaiyin FC) and in 2018-19 (against Bengaluru FC) and remain one of the most consistent teams in ISL history and are still a real force to be reckoned with in the ISL.
6. Bengaluru FC – 1 title (1 Cup)
Bengaluru FC finished top of the pile in their debut ISL season in 2017-18 but endured heartbreak as they lost in the final against Chennaiyin FC. The Blues bounced back next season topping the table again before going one step further and winning the ISL Cup beating the Gaurs in the final.
The Blues have reached two more finals since (2022-23 and 2024-25) but lost out on both occasions to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Bengaluru FC are one of the heavyweights in the ISL.
7. Hyderabad FC – 1 title (1 Cup)
Hyderabad FC’s ISL Cup triumph in 2021-22 was a story of resilience. Emerging from early turbulence, they built a tactically astute unit under Manolo Marquez that grew stronger as the season progressed.
They only managed another runners-up finish in the league in 2022-23 and fell in the semi-finals in ISL knockout stage, but that Hyderabad FC squad under Marquez remains one of the most complete teams to play in the ISL.
8. Jamshedpur FC – 1 title (1 Shield)
The 2021–22 League Winners’ Shield rewarded Jamshedpur FC’s season-long consistency. Under Owen Coyle, they thrived on teamwork and defensive discipline. It was a triumph that put the club firmly among the ISL’s top clubs and Jamshedpur FC have since remained a team that no one enjoys facing.
Overcoming the challenge from top teams like Mumbai City FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC and Owen Coyle proved that everything is possible with strong self-belief and discipline.
