Out of contention for qualification to the knock-out stages, Mumbai City FC will be aiming for a positive result to end their campaign on a high when they take on Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (Air Force Club) in the AFC Champions League group stage match at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

It was against similar opponents that the Islanders scripted a historic win earlier in the competition. But, since then the Des Buckingham-led side has not been able to replicate such a feat. Still licking wounds from a morale-crushing 0-6 loss against Al-Shabab in the previous game, a win or at least a draw would be a fitting end to their campaign.

AFC Champions League Form

Mumbai City FC

The Islanders have lost three, drawn once and emerged victorious in the remaining of the five matches they played in the 2022 AFC Champions League. Their only win was against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, while they ended up on the losing side two times against Al-Shabab, once against Al-Jazira. The other fixture against Al-Jazira was a slatemate.

Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya

The Iraqi side have won two, lost two and shared the spoils in the other from the five matches played so far. A draw for them in the upcoming game will not only ensure them the second spot, but also enhance their chances of progressing to the next round.

Head to Head record

The only meeting between these two sides was staged a couple of weeks back, with Mumbai City FC claiming the bragging rights with a 2-1 win.

Key Players

Mumbai City FC

Mourtada Fall: Already a stalwart back in the domestic circuit, Mourtada Fall is taking baby steps towards greatness in the continental zone as well. Solidly built for his trade, the defender has shielded the Mumbai City FC castle quite efficiently, even though a 0-6 drubbing suggests otherwise. Up against a side itching for a win, the Islander will be a busy man on Tuesday evening.

Bipin Singh: The Indian winger has not been in his best form off-late, but his runs down the wings are very efficient more often than not. Despite not being deemed as the primary goal scorer for his side, Singh will be expected to make swift runs and produce pinpoint crosses into the centre to aid his teammates.

Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya

Roderick Miller: The Panamanian footballer brings loads of experience into the Iraq-based team. Apart from his defensive duties, Roderick Miller has the tendency to net the ball occasionally, which was evident from his strike against Al Shabab, earlier in the tournament. The versatile player will bring added elements to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the upcoming contest.

Ibrahim Bayesh: The 21-year old has been an encouraging addition to the squad and now a regular in the playing XI. Having made his international debut back in 2017, Ibrahim Bayesh is a player for the future for Iraq who needs more time to gain confidence. He scored the opening goal for his side in their 3-2 win over Al-Jazira in the previous game and would be aiming to add more to his tally.
