The Mariners Return To Kolkata On The Back Of A Win, While Miranda Banks On Team Unity Against Familiar Foes.

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giant host Chennaiyin FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday as both sides look to build momentum in the MG Indian Super League 2026-27. The Mariners bounced back from a 1-0 opening defeat to NorthEast United FC with a 2-1 win over Sporting Club Delhi, while Chennaiyin are still seeking their first victory after drawing against FC Goa and losing 2-0 to Bengaluru FC.

Bagan will look to make home advantage count, with former Chennaiyin players Anirudh Thapa and goalkeeper Vishal Kaith facing their old club. For the visitors, defender Dippendu Biswas returns to Kolkata to take on the club where he developed as a player.

Mohun Bagan head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis wants his side to be more clinical in front of goal after creating numerous chances in their opening matches. “When you do 26 attempts, you cannot have zero goals. You should have at least three or four goals,” he said, stressing the need to convert their attacking opportunities.

The Mariners will also look to raise the tempo and cut out errors in possession. Dilmperis made his approach clear: “It's Chennaiyin. We have to win. We have to defend all together and we have to attack all together,” he added.

Chennaiyin coach Clifford Miranda acknowledged the challenge posed by the Mariners, describing them as “possibly one of the contenders for the title.” However, he stressed that his side’s focus remained on its own strengths. “For me, the most important thing is the strength of my team and the unity of my team. I think if we control that, if we have that thing, then it's going to be a good result for us,” he said.

Miranda also reaffirmed his commitment to Chennaiyin’s approach, saying, “We won't change our style of play,” while identifying the final pass and getting more players into the box as areas for improvement. “We know what is the final thing that needs to be corrected,” he added.

Defender Emmanuel Imanishimwe pointed to the team’s progress in coming together as a unit, saying, “We worked hard this week. We are starting to be one team, and we will see some improvement.”

Dilmperis said Jamie Maclaren was returning to action, while Abdul Sahal was unwell and Miguel Figueira had a hamstring issue. Their availability was yet to be confirmed.

Miranda, meanwhile, ruled out Glan Martins, Vignesh Dakshinamurthy and Maheson Singh through injury. Harmandeep Singh and Nikola Stojanovic are available, while Madih Talal continues to regain full fitness.

Bagan beat Chennaiyin 2-0 in their previous meeting at Salt Lake Stadium in February 2026, with Maclaren and Dimitrios Petratos scoring. The game kicks off at 7:30 PM IST and will be streamed live on the MG ISL YouTube channel and Sony Sports Network.
