Indian full-back Prabir Das has signed a three-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan FC, the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) club announced on Wednesday. Prabir was an integral member of the ATK FC side that lifted the Hero ISL trophy in the 2019-20 season and the defender is looking forward to playing in the maroon and green of ATK Mohun Bagan in the upcoming campaign.

“I am very happy to join ATK Mohun Bagan FC. I have received lots of love from both the clubs and I am emotionally connected to both ATK and MB. As a Bengali, I feel proud to be part of ATK Mohun Bagan FC. (I’m) eagerly waiting to be on the pitch for ATK Mohun Bagan FC,” Prabir said after putting pen to paper.

The Indian defender began his career with Pailan Arrows and Dempo SC in the Hero I-League before being on the fringes for FC Goa and Delhi Dynamos FC during the first two editions of the Hero ISL. His eventual breakthrough came during Hero ISL 2016 when he became league champions with ATK. Injury ruled him out of Hero ISL 2018-19, but last season saw him become an automatic starter in head coach Antonio Lopez Habas’s ATK side.

The 26-year-old right-back provided five assists in Hero ISL 2019-20, making him one of the most attacking defenders in the league. He also made 85 clearances, 64 tackles, 31 interceptions and 24 blocks last season. A two-time league winner and a key member of his team’s defence in the previous campaign, Habas’ men conceded just 16 times in the league phase and was one of the meanest backlines in Hero ISL 2019-20.
