Bengaluru FC held Chennaiyin FC to a goalless draw in Match 83 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 at the Fatorda Stadium on Friday. It was Chennaiyin who had the more clear goalscoring opportunities in the game and their head coach Csaba Laszlo was disappointed at not being able to reduce the gap on the teams above them, given the number of chances that his team created.

“We have been very unlucky in the goalscoring department. If we got the three points, we could have closed the gap. But I don't want to give up because we have four games. If our performance remains the same, then maybe the football gods will help us score the goals,” Laszlo said at the post-match press conference.

The head coach admitted that although his team always fights for the three points, their opponents can have a better day than them. “Every game in which we don't get the three points is painful. I want to win every game and I try to prepare my team for victory. But we have to accept that sometimes the opponents can have a better day,” he said.

Laszlo also heaped praise on his team’s latest addition Manuel Lanzarote, who made his debut for the club after joining them during the January transfer window. “We missed a player like Lanzarote after Rafael (Crivellaro) went out (due to an injury). He is not only a great runner. He is also good on the ball and with his performance, he helped us create many chances. We now have four games remaining and I am sure he will help us in those games.”

Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s interim head coach Naushad Moosa said that his team were lucky to get a point from the game. “We were lucky. They got a lot of scoring opportunities that they missed. The way we played in the first half was not how we wanted to play… It is nice to have a clean sheet but the way that the things are on the points table, it was very important for us to get the three points.”

Bengaluru were missing many of their key players for this match but Moosa refused to use their absence as an excuse for their sub-par performance. “When we don't have the likes of Rahul (Bheke) and Leon (Augustine), it does create an issue. But we have to play with whatever we have. We have to be more professional and give our best all the time,” he said.
