Jamshedpur FC have completed a move for 24-year-old Spanish striker Sergio Castel Martinez. At Jamshedpur, Martinez will join up with fellow countrymen Tiri, Piti, Noe Acosta and Aitor Monroy Rueda.

Castel spent his formative years at Barcelona-based side UE Rubi and Pamplona-based Osasuna before moving on to represent clubs like CD Tudelano, CD Lealtad, Las Rozas in Spain. In 2015, he embarked on his first foreign venture as he joined Australian club FC Bendigo. He also joined Vietnamese side Than Quang Ninh briefly before moving back to Spain.

Martinez joins Jamshedpur on the back of a brilliant season for Segunda Division B side UD San Sebastian de Los Reyes (SS Reyes), for whom he scored 13 times in 34 appearances in 2018-19 en route helping them secure an eighth-place finish in the league. His performances earned him a call up to join Atletico Madrid's B team.

Having joined Jamshedpur FC for the upcoming campaign of Hero ISL, Castel will look to establish himself as a mainstay in the team helmed by his fellow countryman Antonio Iriondo.

“I am delighted to play for Jamshedpur, which is one of the top clubs in India with a massive fan following. The Hero ISL is a competitive league and I look forward to the opportunity of playing in this beautiful city. Moreover, I am excited to play under a highly experienced coach like Antonio Iriondo,” the player told the official Jamshedpur website after signing on the dotted line.

New Jamshedpur head coach Iriondo was also delighted with the new recruit and said, “In Sergio Castel, we have signed a forward who is quick, strong and a constant threat for the opposition. He is young and a positive influence off the field and compliments our other foreign and Indian players.”
