Carlos Pinto Demands Structural Focus After A Testing Week; Gaurs Eyeing First Win Of The Season
Pune: Inter Kashi FC will look to put a difficult week behind them when they host FC Goa at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Sunday. The home side enters the fixture desperate to repair their defensive frailties following a heavy 5-1 defeat against East Bengal. Meanwhile, FC Goa arrive on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Sporting Club Delhi, eager to pick up momentum and register their first victory of the new domestic season.
Having had a clear week to dissect their previous outing, Inter Kashi head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto stressed the silver lining of an extended training window.
“It was a very long week. When you lose, you don't like a long week. You want to play again in a very short time. But at the same time, for us it was important because it's only the third week of work. This gave us more time to recover and also to work on a few details that still need to work,” he said.
Pinto acknowledged the tactical challenge posed by the visitors, pointing to Goa's recent international commitments in the AFC Challenge League as a primary driver of their sharpness.“They played international competitions. This gives them not only the confidence that they need to start the season, but it gives them the foundations about the style of play and also about the fitness level. Their fitness level, at the moment, is better than ours,” he added.
Midfielder Jitendra Singh echoed the manager’s long-term vision, focusing on squad cohesion as they settle into the league. “I think we have a good squad with good Indian players,” Singh stated.
The Gaurs, under their current tactical framework, will look to test that defensive resolve early. History suggests very little separates these two units, their last meeting in February 2026 ended in a highly charged 1-1 draw where a late penalty rescued a point for Goa after Inter Kashi had opened the scoring.
FC Goa head coach Gouramangi Singh, meanwhile, has identified physical recovery as a key concern after a demanding run of fixtures. However, he has warned his players against allowing Inter Kashi’s position in the standings to influence their approach. “The thing is we need to respect the opponent. Football is very dynamic, and it can surprise you many times. We cannot just show up there thinking we're going to win this match. That is the only mistake we cannot repeat against Kashi. They will give everything to collect points,” suggested the head coach.
Singh is currently awaiting final assessments on several players, including Harsh Patre, Aakash Sangwan and Jorge Ortiz, who were absent from FC Goa's previous game. The head coach expects most of them to travel to Pune, but will take a final call on their involvement closer to kick-off.
With Inter Kashi fighting to secure a foundation at their temporary home ground and FC Goa determined to break their winless start, Sunday’s encounter shapes up to be a test of resilience.
The match kicks off at 7:30 PM IST on Sunday, November 1, and will be streamed live on the MG ISL YouTube Channel and Sony Sports Network.
