Jamshepdur FC wrapped up their season with a 3-2 win over Bengaluru FC in Match 106 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on Thursday. First-half goals from Stephen Eze, Seiminlen Doungel and David Grande gave Jamshedpur FC a commanding lead heading into the break. The Blues made a match of it in the second half thanks to goals from Francisco Gonzalez and Sunil Chhetri.

  • Stephen Eze scored the opening goal of the match in the 16th minute.
  • Seiminlen Doungel doubled Jamshedpur FC’s lead before David Grande made it 3-0 in the 41st minute.
  • Francisco Gonzalez pulled one back for the Blues in the 62nd minute.
  • Sunil Chhetri added a second goal for his team nine minutes later.

Udanta Singh forced the first save of the match from TP Rehenesh in the 11th minute. The move began after Chhetri did well to control a long ball before passing it to Udanta whose shot, however, was palmed over the goal by the Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper.

Five minutes later, Jamshedpur FC took the lead from a free-kick courtesy of their Nigerian defender. Aitor Monroy floated the dead ball into the attacking third and Eze guided the ball into the net.

Owen Coyle’s side almost doubled their lead in the 29th minute but Lalthuammawia Ralte did well to deny Farukh Choudhary. Their second goal eventually came in the 34th minute thanks to a brilliant finish by Doungel. Farukh passed the ball to Doungel who did well to beat Ajith Kumar and slot the ball across into the far corner to score his first goal for Jamshedpur FC.

They continued their domination over the Blues in the first half, with Grande scoring their third goal of the game shortly after. Another free-kick delivered by Monroy was glanced into the bottom left corner of the net by the Spanish striker to ensure that Jamshedpur FC went into the break with a comfortable three-goal lead.

After a quiet start to the second half, Bengaluru FC at last landed the first blow. In the 62nd minute, a long throw-in from the left found Francisco at the far post and the latter no made no mistake with a header.

Chhetri scored Bengaluru FC’s second goal in the 71st minute to give them some hope of a positive result from the game. Suresh Wangjam beat Ricky Lallawmawma to the ball and passed it to Harmanjot Khabra. The fullback crossed the ball from the right into the attacking third for Chhetri to head into the back of the net.

Bengaluru FC had a late chance of earning at least a point after a corner from the right flank was headed towards goal but Rehenesh got an important touch on the ball to keep the scoreline intact. With the win, Jamshedpur FC finished the season in sixth place. The Blues meanwhile finished seventh.

Aitor Monroy ran the midfield for Jamshepdur FC in their win over Bengaluru FC. Two of his freekicks assisted two goals for Jamshedpur FC in the first half. In defence, Monroy made two successful tackles and two clearances.
