Bartholomew Ogbeche became the all-time leading goalscorer in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) history as Hyderabad FC thumped NorthEast United FC 5-0 at the PJN Stadium in Margao, Goa on Monday.

Ogbeche (3’) continued his goalscoring form to put HFC in the lead early on in the match. Akash Mishra (45’+2) scored from another corner and doubled Hyderbad FC’s lead. Ogbehce then added a second (61’) to pile on the misery on Khalid Jamil’s side. Nikhil Poojary (84’) scored the fourth goal of the game and sealed their victory before Edu Garcia (88’) put the cherry on top of the cake for HFC with a fifth goal.

Hyderabad FC scored from the first opportunity in the game. Joel Chianese played a delicious cross from a short corner, which was flicked on onto the post by Joao Victor but Ogbeche tapped the ball into the back of the net with an acrobatic effort.

NorthEast United FC got their first good opportunity to score in the 14th minute, when Marco Sahanek sent the ball to the back post, from a free-kick, and the ball fell to Zakaria Diallo who missed the target.

The match cooled down in intensity as the first half went on.

Akash Mishra’s header from a corner by Joel Chianese, was saved on the line by Subhasish Roy in the 35th minute. But, he got his goal from another corner. Chianese was pin-point with his delivery and Akash Mishra headed the ball in from close range to increase HFC’s lead, just before the end of the first half.

Hyderabad FC ended the first half in complete control and took seven shots to NEUFC’s two.

The second half was another cagey affair to start with. But, Ogbeche became the Hero ISL record top goalscorer with a smart but clumsy goal. It was a replica of the first goal, Chianese flicked the ball into the six-yard box and the Nigerian striker scored with another acrobatic finish.

Chianese had a chance to score himself, when he found himself through on goal but, mis-hit the ball and failed to hit the target.

NorthEast United FC thought they got themselves back into the game with a goal from Suhair Vadakkepeedika but it was ruled out for offside.

Poojary slotted the ball into the bottom right corner in the 84th minute to make 4-0. Four minutes later, Garcia placed the ball into the bottom left corner from a through pass by Javier Siviero and made it a resounding victory for his team.

Manuel Marquez’s side extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with the win. But for NEUFC, they remained in 10th place in the Hero ISL table.

Next for Hyderabad FC is ATK Mohun Bagan on February 8 and for NorthEast United FC, they will take on Kerala Blasters FC on Friday.
