Delhi Dynamos FC maintained their unbeaten record in the Hero Indian Super League but were unable to break down NorthEast United FC as the game ended in a goalless draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. The visitors remain on third spot with eight points from five games while the hosts are in fourth place with six points from one less. The match was evenly contested through the 90 minutes as both teams set themselves up with decent opportunities. Delhi’s marquee player Alessandro Del Piero looked the closest to making a breakthrough in the first half whereas the Highlanders looked the livelier in the second session. The first opportunity for Delhi came in the 14th minute as Bruno Arias dribbled past a few defenders and found Del Piero who shot just wide of the near post. Just four minutes later Mads Junker played the star through who tried to curl the ball from about 25 yards out but missed by a few inches. The visitors’ best chance came right at the half-way point as Anwar Ali gave away the ball to Tomas Josl who took a touch and sent it just wide of the far post with Delhi keeper Kristof Van Hout rooted to his line. The North East side began on the front foot in the second half as Durga Boro dispatched a shot from a distance that deflected off Wim Raymaekers and Van Hout palmed it out for a corner. The home side almost opened their account a couple of minutes later as Arias floated the ball in to Junker who back-heeled it against the post.NEUFC were also denied a possible penalty as Robin Gurung went down in the rival box under pressure from Raymaekers. Another great chance fell to the away team in the 73rd minute as Felipe de Castro set up substitute Leo Bertos but the Kiwi international shot wide under pressure from the Delhi defence.Delhi travel to Goa for their next encounter on November 1 while NorthEast United will also play away in Pune on November 3.
