FC Goa will host Delhi Dynamos at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Thursday. Both sides have had contrasting starts to the 2018-19 Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL). Goa currently sit in 4th position in the league standings, collecting 10 points from five matches while Delhi are in 9th position, having only attained four points. The Lions are still in search of their first victory of the campaign and Thursday’s match could provide them with the perfect opportunity to do so.

At the pre-match press conference, head coach of Delhi Dynamos Josep Gombau was present to address the media’s questions. The Spaniard lamented his side’s poor form but was hopeful of a change in fortune, given their performances. “Look we are not getting the results but we are playing well. We played seven games and we deserved more than what we got. For us it is an important game tomorrow, because we need to win against Goa. The last game we played well and now we are confident that we can try and get the result.”

Talking about his opponents, Gombau admitted that Goa will be a tough prospect but had confidence in his team to eke out a result. “We know that we are coming to Goa, who have a very good squad and coach. We know it will be a difficult game. But last game we did well and we need to maintain this performance. Knowing that tomorrow will be a difficult game, we will try to get a result.”

When asked about the availability of some of his players, who were substituted during the last encounter against Jamshedpur, Gombau stated that it was only a tactical switch. “We played (Francisco) Dorronsoro in the first half in the last game. But we felt that we needed to have more foreign outfield players to win the game. In this case, it was a tactical reason.”

The 42-year-old spoke of the confidence-boost the match against Jamshedpur had on the team, after going three matches without a goal. “Look, we miss a lot of chances and this is something which has been going on since the beginning of the season. But now we scored two goals in the last game and hopefully tomorrow we can score more goals.”
