Delhi Dynamos FC have completed a stunning acquisition for the upcoming season by enlisting the services of Spanish winger Xisco Hernandez from Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 champions Bengaluru FC.

Hernandez rose up through the youth setup at RCD Mallorca and played professional football in Spain for a decade, turning up for sides like Elche, Lleida Esportiu, Reus Deportiu, Atletico Baleares, and others. He joined Bengaluru in 2018 and was an instant hit, helping the team win the Hero ISL on his debut season in India.

Primarily a right-winger, Xisco is also adept at slotting in as an attacking midfielder and contributed heavily towards the Blues' title run, playing 20 matches and raking in a goal and five assists. His maiden Hero ISL goal came in the first leg of Bengaluru's semi-final tie against NorthEast United FC. The Blues ended up losing the match 2-1, but Xisco's strike being an all-important away goal, had a huge impact on the second leg and eventually the whole tournament.

Xisco will be the Lions' second new foreign recruit for the season. The capital-based club roped in former Barcelona B player Diawandou Diagne earlier this month. They have also signed young Indian winger Jerry Mawhmingthanga from Jamshedpur FC earlier.

The player was thrilled with the move and said, “I am happy to be back in India after a successful first season outside Spain. Coach Josep Gombau has vested immense trust in me and I am very sure that I will be able to deliver as per his expectations. Delhi has a very young squad and I see a lot of potential in the team. Once again, really happy to join Delhi Dynamos and I can’t wait to roar.”

Gombau, too, was elated with the addition of his fellow countryman and a Hero ISL winner to the squad. “As a coach, I am so happy to have him in my squad. He’s a player who will bring a lot to us, both inside and outside the field. He is a player who is familiar with India and more importantly, he has won the Hero ISL,” he stated.
