Fourth edition of RFYC camp draws to a close
The fourth edition of the Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) programme came to a conclusion on Monday as the young talents checked out of Beverly Park in Navi Mumbai. The camp which commenced on May 2nd featured 60 participants from all across the country with the hope of getting selected into the prestigious RFYC Academy.
Through the course of the camp, the youngsters engaged in morning and evening sessions at Reliance Corporate Park. Here, the prospects were taught drills and techniques on some of the fundamental aspects of the game which included passing, shooting, dribbling, etc. After the training drills, games were conducted to assess the quality of the players and their ability to play in tandem with their new teammates. Theoretical sessions were conducted at Beverly Park where a number of aspects of the game were covered in great detail by Technical Director Piet Hubers and Head Coach Marcus Vaessen.
Vaessen shared his thoughts on the quality of the players at this year’s camp and also shed light on the challenge that they face when selecting the final recruits. “Every year, we say that we are getting better talent – and it is true. What you see is that the boys are more experienced with more games, more training sessions and they already have more experience on the pitch. They have really developed themselves. So, again this year, it is a challenge for us to pick up the right kids but we can do it for sure because there is a lot of talent.”
On the whole, this edition of the RFYC camp was a huge success and the participants had a memorable time, taking home plenty of positives from the five-day camp. One of the young prospects shared his experience of his time at the camp and the quality of the facilities at Navi Mumbai. “I had a very good experience staying here and playing with children from other states. I learnt many things which I did not know before. The facilities were very good.”
The players will now wait in anticipation for the final results to be announced in the next few days.
