The Manipur-born midfielder joined the Bengaluru FC academy back in 2016 and swiftly rose through the ranks, playing for the Bengaluru B side, who won the 2018–19 Bangalore Super Division. He was called up for the senior team during the 2018-19 season and made his Hero ISL debut against Chennaiyin FC on February 19, 2019. The talented midfielder joined Hyderabad FC on loan during the 2019-20 season, playing two matches for the club. Ajay moved to SC East Bengal during the January transfer window of Hero ISL 2020-21.
