Born in Bengaluru, Vignesh was lapped up by Pune FC at the tender age of 19. He however had a forgettable start to his career at the Red Lizards. He spent a total of 3 seasons there, but did not appear once on the pitch for them.

Sensing better opportunities, Vignesh moved to Chirag United Club, Kerala. Vignesh followed this up with a move to newly created corporate side Bharat FC, appearing 11 times for them in I-League 2014-15. Whilst at the club, he did enough to attract attention from Delhi Dynamos, despite his poor disciplinary record in that season. If he can temper his aggression, his small frame, quick feet and low centre of gravity makes him a defender’s nightmare and an undeniable asset for the Dynamos.
