Bio
Borja Fernández, better known as Borja, is a graduate of the Real Madrid youth system and rose through the ranks, becoming a first-team player in 2003. The defensive midfielder represented Los Blancos in 23 games. After a brief loan spell at Mallorca, he moved to Real Valladolid and helped the second-division side earn promotion to La Liga. He has since had spells at Getafe and Deportivo la Coruña.
The 6 feet 2 inches behemoth was possibly the most important player of the Atlético de Kolkata side which won the Hero ISL 2014. Playing as a defensive screen, the Spaniard not only led the table for tackles in the tournament with 63 (Highest in the League) but also pitched in offensively with a goal and two assists. He was once again an integral figure in midfield for ATK last season and will be crucial to his side’s fortunes in Hero ISL 2016 as well.
