A perfect utility man, the veteran midfielder has proved his worth for several outfits either in the centre of the park or along the flanks thanks to his high work rate and innate creativity. He was man of the match as Calcutta Port Trust humbled champions Mohun Bagan 1-0 in the opening fixture of the 2006 Calcutta Football League. A good outing for Bengal in the Santosh Trophy the same year led to a demand for Tapan Maity’s signature from the big clubs. It was the maroon & green outfit that secured his services and he helped his new employers beat the old one 3-0 with an assist in his debut match. The widely travelled player has had his fair share of victorious moments in a long and eventful career.
