Shylo Malswamtluanga
Midfielder
Bio
‘Mama’, as he is popularly called on the domestic football circuit, is a legend in Mizoram, being the first player to play for a big club outside the state and also the first Mizo to wear the India jersey. He is fondly referred to as ‘the Godfather of all Mizo footballers”, having literally inspired several Mizos to follow his footsteps and earn fame and fortune, notable examples being Jeje Lalpekhlua, Lalridika Ralte etc. In the process, the tiny north-eastern state has now been transformed into a powerhouse of Indian football.
The pint sized and fleet footed right winger, famous for his darting runs into opposing territory and wicked crosses, graduated from the Tata Football Academy and joined the fabled East Bengal side of the early 2000s under Subhas Bhowmick that held sway in the domestic and regional international sector. The evergreen former international seems to be getting better with age and had a great second spell with the Red & Golds after re-uniting with them last season. Mama has delivered big time with several top clubs that he has turned out for over the years and has a huge collection of silverware in his cabinet.
