Sushanth Mathew started his football journey at Calicut University where his performances helped him get a berth in the Kerala Santosh Trophy squad. Soon, he got a chance to rub shoulders with his childhood hero, I M Vijayan, in the FC Kochin youth set up. The workmanlike defensive midfielder rose to prominence with Vasco SC and Mahindra United for his knack of breaking up opposition attacks through his clever reading of the game and positioning ability. The perfect utility man can function as both midfielder and side back. Mathew has literally been there and done that in a long and fruitful club career and won almost everything that counts. His brilliant left-footed curler remains one of the highlights from Season 1 of the Hero-Indian Super League where he made 5 appearances for the Kerala Blasters. The Stallions will be hoping he can replicate his form in the orange and purple of Pune.
