Born in England, Barnes came up through the youth system of Derby County, before making his senior debut for the club aged 17, under the then Derby manager Phil Brown. After spending the first half of his career in England, representing clubs like Derby, West Brom and Doncaster Rovers, the attacking midfielder moved to the USA to play in the MLS in 2012. After spells at several MLS clubs and a short stint at Mexico for Club Leon, Barnes has signed for Hyderabad FC, where he is set to reunite with the man who handed him his senior team debut almost 15 years back – Phil Brown. Barnes has also represented England in the youth levels and played senior international football for Jamaica.
