Adrian Mutu began his professional career with his home club Arge? Pite?ti in Romania. Mutu made his international debut for Romania in 2000. In 77 appearances Mutu has scored 35 goals for his national side, a joint record. Mutu was also part of the Romanian squad that played at the Euro 2000 and Euro 2008 tournaments. After joining Internazionale midway through the 1999-2000 Serie A season, Mutu managed two goals in 14 appearances for them. In 2003 Mutu joined Chelsea. Following this, he went back to Italy signing for Juventus. He moved to Fiorentina in 2006 for five years where he was reunited with his former manager Cesare Prandelli, under whom he played at Parma. At Fiorentina he formed a productive partnership with Luca Toni and between them the pair scored 32 goals in the 2006–07 season. He was named the best player of the season, due to his 16 goals and eight assists in 33 games. On his 200th match appearance in Serie A, he was chosen to captain Fiorentina.
