Balwant Singh blossomed with Churchill Brothers SC during the 2013-14 Hero I-League season, knocking in goals consistently for the Red Machines and playing a key role in the club's Federation Cup triumph the same season. Later in the year, he entered the history books as he became the first Indian to score in the Hero ISL when he found the net for Chennaiyin FC against FC Goa. Balwant was also a part of Mohun Bagan's I-League winning team in 2015. With Mumbai City FC in the 2017-18 campaign, he scored six goals in 16 appearances. He joined ATK FC for the 2018-19 season and and scored two goals in 23 appearances for the club, winning the Hero ISL trophy in the 2019-20 season. The veteran was signed by SC East Bengal ahead of the ISL 2020-21 season.
