Mohammed Rafi was a good sprinter during his school days but started playing football only around the age of 15. He came through the ranks of SBT and was initially signed up by inaugural champions ATK for Hero ISL 2014, where he was mainly deployed on the wings. He then, signed for the Kerala Blasters in Hero ISL 2015 and scored four goals, all of which were headers. Rafi was also on target in the final of Hero ISL 2016, which Kerala lost on penalties against ATK. Both his goals for Chennaiyin in the 2017-18 season came as a substitute. Last season he made just four appearances for Chennaiyin and will be looking to be more involved in his home state club’s affairs in Hero ISL 2019-20.
