Touted as a promising talent in West Bengal, Provat Lakra was signed by local club Pathachakra, who shortly after sent him on loan to Gokulam Kerala FC. An impressive Hero I-League campaign for Gokulam Kerala FC then earned Lakra a move to NorthEast United FC. He made six appearances in his debut Hero ISL campaign in 2018-19, before adding three more in the 2019-20 season for the Highlanders, and 11 in the 2020-21 edition.
