Mikaël Silvestre started his career with the Rennes Youth Academy in France before making his Ligue 1 debut in the 1995-96 season. He established himself as a regular centre back before making a series of big moves to Inter Milan, Manchester United, Arsenal and Werder Bremen.
During his nine-year association with the ‘Red Devils’, Silvestre won all major trophies in English football including five Premier League titles. He also won the UEFA Champions League and Intercontinental Cup. Silvestre was utilized as both centre back and left back by Alex Ferguson. Over the years he made 82 appearances in the UEFA Champions League to enhance his reputation as a calm and composed defender. Towards the end of his career Silvestre tried his luck with Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers in 2013.
At the international level, Silvestre earned 40 caps and helped France to Confederation Cup triumphs in 2001 and in 2003.
