Arnab Mondal started playing football at the tender age of eight. He came up through the Mohammedan Sporting youth set-up before making it to the Hero I-League with Prayag United. Two seasons with the purple brigade paved the way for the tough and uncompromising defender’s call-up to the India under-23 team. Mondal then joined East Bengal and established himself as the mainstay in defence. Mondal was one of the mainstays in the 2014 Hero ISL champions ATK’s squad, playing in 16 of the 17 matches. He was also the peak of the Indian defenders in the league with 141 blocks (second highest that season) and 54 interceptions (most by any Indian player in the season). The defender re-joins the Kolkata-based side for the 2018-19 season.
