Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd expressed his delight after securing a 3-2 win in a difficult game against Hyderabad FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium, in Hyderabad, on Saturday.

The Red Miners registered a comeback win, scoring three goals in the first half after conceding the first, which were enough to come away with all three points even despite losing a man in the second half. It was the fourth win of the season for Jamshedpur FC, which took them to 16 points from 19 games. Meanwhile, Hyderabad FC stayed in the second spot in the Hero ISL standings with 39 points.

Jamshedpur FC created many outright chances in the second half even after going down to 10-men and Boothroyd, applauded his team’s spirit. The Red Miners have won seven points from the last three games after a slow start to the season, and the Englishman feels it is important to finish the league on a strong note.

“It was a very difficult game, Hyderabad FC made a lot of changes and it was important for us to keep the integrity of the league by our performance. We did everything we could to win, creating a couple of outright chances to win it in the second half. It was important to get a win. It has been a long season, but getting seven points from the last three games is good. We want to finish the season in a strong manner,” Boothroyd said in the official post-match press conference.

Daniel Chima Chukwu, the 31-year-old forward, is getting his form back. He has scored five goals and provided one assist in the league so far. In the recent games he has scored two goals and provided one assist and Boothroyd is happy to have such a player who he considers as an unsung player in the squad.

“Daniel is one of the most unsung heroes in the league. He gives his best everytime, holds the ball while doing the unselfish stuff on the pitch. He is a team player, and I am very happy for him and the boys, especially after tonight’s win,” he stated.

Jamshedpur FC play their last league game against Odisha FC, who are in contention to qualify for the top six. The Red Miners will be aiming to continue their impressive run and get three points.

“We will be in the game to win it. In the home fixture, which was the first game of the season, we were unlucky to lose 2-3 against Odisha FC. My players will look to get revenge at the Kalinga Stadium to win the game,” Boothroyd concluded.
