We don’t have enough quality to play matches in the Indian Super League: SC East Bengal’s Manuel Diaz

SC East Bengal coach Manuel Diaz was not amused with how his side have fared so far in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season and did not shy away from addressing it in the post-match press conference after the 4-6 defeat against Odisha FC.

The journey so has been forgettable as they started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC before a 3-0 loss in the Kolkata Derby followed by 6-4 run in the mill performance against Odisha FC in their third match.

Diaz has made it clear that the side’s par execution is yet to reach the quality that one expects in the Hero ISL.

Manuel Diaz addressed the media at the end of the game and here are the excerpts from his press conference.

You lost the match 6-4, with a total of ten goals being scored. Will SC East Bengal be able to win a single match this season?

It is a big question. For the moment, it is what it is. We don’t have enough quality for playing these kinds of matches mainly in the set pieces we are losing the positions. Our job is working out with the squad and fixing it. At the moment we don’t have enough quality to play matches in the Indian Super League.

How will you motivate your players after back-to-back losses?

In our first thirty minutes, we played well. In the three matches, it has been the worst performance of ours in the Indian Super League. In twelve minutes, we lost our attention and the opponent scored in set pieces.

Darren Sidoel started as a forward today despite being a midfielder, do you think starting with Daniel Chukwa or Semboi would have made a difference tonight?

See Chima and Semboi have played good minutes, Darren Sidoel is a good midfielder but an offensive midfielder. It is a possibility they can play together, the three players.

The defensive set-up of your team seems to have let the team down, what is your opinion on the defensive line-up?

Defensive responsibilities are the whole squad, not only the line of defence. Our performance and the whole team is at par level because they have allowed scoring in simple situations and easily away.
