Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC have released Brazilian forward Ibson Melo, announced the club on Thursday via their social media handles.

Melo became a part of NorthEast United FC during the summer transfer window and played a crucial role for the Highlanders in the Durand Cup 2023, contributing to their journey to the semi-finals.

Despite his noteworthy performances in the Durand Cup, Melo encountered challenges securing a spot in NorthEast United FC's starting eleven during the ISL 2023-24 season. He only featured in three starting line-ups out of the nine league games he played this season, as head coach Juan Pedro Benali showed a preference for Spanish forward Nestor Albiach in the striking position. Melo managed to score just one goal in the nine league games he participated in for the Highlanders.

The 26-year-old has yet to feature in the ISL 2023-24 season, but he participated in two matches for the Gaurs during the 2023 Durand Cup. FC Goa advanced to the semi-finals but faced defeat against Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
