FC Goa head coach Zico was delighted with the way his team played today after they ran out 1-4 victors over Delhi Dynamos FC in the national capital in an eighth round match of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). “We are very happy with the way our team played today. We have got four goals, but we know we have to get a certain goal average. But we will keep training and playing well to recover the points that we have lost in the first league. A victory like this one shows that we are alive,” the Brazilian legend said at the post match press conference. When queried why most goals were being scored by foreign players in the tournament, Zico replied, “Each player has his own characteristics. I don’t think that foreigners are scoring because they are better. Even in the I-League, the Indian players don’t score much. In today’s match Gabriel (Fernandes) and Mandar (Rao Desai) had chances to score, but in the positions that they play, they don’t have much chances like the foreign players do. In our team, all our defenders are very tall and they jump very high and they are also well positioned, so they had the chance to score.”Of the Indian players, Zico’s personal favorites are C S Sabeeth from Kerela Blasters FC, Cavin Lobo from Atlético de Kolkata and Durga Boro of NorthEast United FC. He feels disheartened that there aren’t any Indian strikers in his squad. “All the strikers that we have like Tolgay (Özbey), Miguel (Herlein), Ranti (Martins) and Miroslav (Slepička) are foreigners,” he pointed out.Zico is satisfied with the success of the ISL and feels it can help in the development of Indian football. “The league can help a lot in the development of football in India. It has a great future and moreover, the ISL and the I-League can join forces, then we will get to see more Indian players and less foreign players,” he suggested.
