The ‘master blaster’ from Mumbai, after whose moniker the southern team takes its name, was himself present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Chandy said he was really happy that Tendulkar had decided to own an ISL team from Kerala. “The state government and the people of Kerala are all excited with his initiative and we extend all our support to his team,” the CM said. Chandy also requested Tendulkar to be the goodwill ambassador of the upcoming National Games that Kerala will host in January next year, a proposal that was readily accepted by the batting legend. On his part Tendulkar revealed that they decided to name it as Kerala Blasters because he is known as 'master blaster'. “I grew up playing cricket, but I also enjoyed all other games, including football. Even in the Indian cricket team and also at Mumbai Indians, football is an integral part of our practise session," said Tendulkar, who is a co-owner of the team along with PVP group chairman Prasad Potluri. The iconic cricketer was virtually mobbed right from the time he landed in the city until he arrived at the state secretariat. Before the launch Tendulkar had a brief meeting with Chandy and his senior cabinet colleagues. A visually overwhelmed Tendulkar asked for the wholehearted support of the people of Kerala and the state government in his endeavour.“There was a time when there were many players form Kerala in the Indian football team, but now it's not the case. Our aim is to change the face of Indian football through the ISL and for that there has to be teamwork with support from all.”Oommen Chandy, Kerala Chief Minister “There was a time when there were many players form Kerala in the Indian football team, but now it's not the case.
