FC Goa registered a 2-0 win over NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday and marked their 100th match in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) with a victory. An own goal by Mislav Komorski gave the Gaurs the lead before Ferran Corominas secured the win from the penalty spot. The win also took Goa back to the top of the Hero ISL 2019-20 table.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, head coach Sergio Lobera shared his views on the win and said, “I think today we played a difficult match because NorthEast defended very well. It was difficult for us today to find the space and create chances like the other matches. But finally, the most important thing today is that we got the three points. We are on top of the table, especially keeping in mind that the next match is an important one against ATK.”

Further assessing the performance of their opponents, the Spaniard opined, “I think that NorthEast were missing some important players. This team with (Asamoah) Gyan is a very different team and I spoke with my players before the game about him regardless of whether he was playing or not. We had to move the ball and run. We had good moments and good timing and were defensively balanced. It was difficult to find the space but finally we did in the second half and got the three points.”

Goa’s next match in the competition will be an away game against ATK FC, who have been in good form this season. Addressing the upcoming challenge, Lobera noted, “ATK are a very good team. They have many good players and have built a strong team. I expect a very difficult match, but I believe in my players and my team and I think it’s possible to win the match. We have 10 days to prepare for the match. I hope that if we get three points in Kolkata it will be a big step for us.”
