Massamba Lô Sambou became only the second defender in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) to score a brace which he did in NorthEast United FC’s 3-0 thumping of Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Thursday night. The Senegalese defender was making only his third appearance in the tournament and found the net from two headers in quick succession, one from a corner and the other off a wickedly curling free kick taken by Koke.Sambou is confident that he can score again if he is given a chance to play, having scored a lot of goals in training. “Yes, maybe you score many goals in training and you get a lot of confidence. So I’m going to say that if I play, I can score goals,” the burly 6’2” player told indiansuperleague.com after the match.NorthEast United were aggressive right from the kickoff and played to win with great determination, knowing that a negative result would spell their doom in the tournament. “Today, we knew that if we lost it’s finished, so that’s why every player knew that we must play strong. Chennai is a good team so we had to be strong, because if we won it would be good for us,” he said.“For me, it’s been a really good experience, I’m happy,” said the former Monaco man as he summed up his ISL journey so far.
