Kerala Blasters FC have reached an agreement with Sahal Abdul Samad to extend his stay with the club. The youngster signed a new long-term deal, which will keep him at the Kochi-based club till 2022.

Despite Kerala enduring a terrible Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 season, the 22-year-old emerged as the silver lining for the Kerala faithful. The midfielder started the season as just a promising youngster, having made just two appearances for Kerala senior team in 2017-18, but emerged as the team's most consistent performer last campaign. Sahal impressed pundits and fans alike with his impeccable technical ability, calmness on the ball and decision making under pressure.

He bagged his debut Hero ISL goal in a memorable South Indian derby against rivals Chennaiyin FC and finished the season with very impressive numbers, which earned him the prestigious ISL Emerging Player of the Season award. Sahal's performances for Kerala also helped him break into India’s U-23 squad for AFC Championship qualifiers.

With the local fan-favourite’s future secured at the club, Kerala fans will have a lot to look forward to for the upcoming season.

"Football has been my greatest passion since childhood and there is no greater pride and happiness for me than playing for my state. I belong here," said Sahal after putting pen to paper.

Kerala Blasters assistant coach, Ishfaq Ahmed said, "Sahal's contract extension with Kerala Blasters reaffirms his commitment to Kerala and to grow further beyond being ISL's Best Emerging Player. The club is committed to be a part of this journey with him."
