Fiji national team forward Roy Krishna was awarded with the Golden Boot award in the recent OFC Men’s Nations Cup 2024, recording five goals in five appearances.

One of Indian Super League’s (ISL) most prolific forwards and Odisha FC’s top scorer from the 2023-24 season, Krishna continued his fine form with the Bula Boys as they finished in the fourth spot in the competition, narrowly missing the silverware.

Krishna-led Fiji topped Group B, bagging the maximum points from the three league stage matches. The Bula Boys registered a mammoth 9-1 victory against Samoa and eased past Papua New Guinea by a 5-1 scoreline. Krishna netted a brace against Samoa, both of which came from spotkicks. The forward was also on target against Papua New Guinea and scored a solitary goal against Tahiti in the final group-stage match, where Fiji secured victories.

Showcasing a dominant performance in the group stage, Fiji advanced to the knockouts, carrying forward their unbeaten run.

However, they could not sustain their momentum in the semi-final fixture as they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss against the hosts, Vanuatu. This defeat dashed their hopes of qualifying for the final for the very first time.

Moreover, Fiji played out a third-place match against Tahiti. Despite taking the lead around the hour mark courtesy of Krishna’s goal, the Bula Boys fell behind as Teaonui Tehau, netted a brace to secure a third-place finish for Tahiti.

With that, Fiji finished the OFC Men’s Nations Cup 2024 in the fourth spot.

After registering five goals in this competition, Krishna now has 41 goals in his 56 caps for Fiji. Notably, the Fiji captain has become the first Oceanian footballer to record 40 international goals for his country, surpassing New Zealand’s Chris Wood (34 goals) in this context.

Krishna has successively displayed his goalscoring prowess and his sheer abilities to lead the offensive unit in the ISL over the last couple of years. Since making his ISL debut with ATK in the 2019-20 season, the Fijian forward is the third-highest goalscorer in the league to date, bagging 55 goals in 107 appearances.

Moreover, the Odisha FC forward was the joint-highest goalscorer of the ISL 2023–24 season, being tied on 13 goals with Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos.
