The Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) Selection Camp, currently underway in Navi Mumbai, saw participants undergoing high intensity training sessions and games on Day 3 of the week-long camp. Children born in 2002 began their morning training sessions at the Father Agnel Ground (Artificial Pitch) in Vashi, while those from the batches of 2003 and 2004 had their morning training session conducted at the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul. Participants from the same age competed fiercely in a series of 7v7 training games in a bid to impress on-looking coaches who were assessing their ball control, passing, positional play and shooting amongst other key skills. A video review session was conducted in the afternoon to show the children videos of their training session from the last two days and to highlight areas for improvement. Mark Vaessen, RFYC Programme’s Head Coach, spoke about the participants’ ability to take the coaches’ advice on board and implement it in a relatively short span of time. “After almost three days of training, the players are more receptive to our coaching now. Over the past three days, we (coaches) have tried to illustrate the correct technique attached with basic activities like passing, shooting, finding space, movement off the ball etc. The children are getting better and I could clearly observe that during the practice matches today.” The high intensity workouts were carried into the evening sessions which commenced with the batch of 2003 at the DY Patil Stadium, followed by the 2004 batch at Father Agnel Ground (Natural Pitch) and the 2002 batch at Father Agnel Ground’s artificial pitch.Click here to view photos.
