FC Pune City coach David Platt is happy with the way his team is improving with every game in the 2015 Hero Indian Super League (ISL). At the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Stadium in Pune on Saturday, the hosts beat reigning champions Atlético de Kolkata 1-0 to register their third win in four matches and take the top spot in the league, thanks to a Jackichand Singh goal.“We’ve grown as a team. We won the first two games and I wasn’t too pleased with the football that we played. We got the six points but we could have controlled the game. Next two games, we controlled the games. If we get the performance right we will win more games. We’ve built on our performances. After four games now I feel we’ve evolved and we’ve grown,” Platt told reporters after the match. When asked whether the win against the defending champions was strategically and tactically well executed, the Englishman said: “No, we thought that we could play 10 yards higher up the pitch than we did against Delhi and meeting the opposition up. We wanted to force the game to be played at a better rhythm and a better tempo. The players take all the credit for this. I could only ask them to do this but we could not train for this.“We played 48 hours before against Delhi so we had few players for training. Even with the couple of knocks we picked up, we could not train yesterday since I could not pick the final team. So the players deserve to take all the credit because it is not easy for players to take on verbal instructions and interpret it well. And to interpret and then go out and perform like they did is exceptional with an effort and an industry second to none mixed with some quality play. Although I have to be critical, we should have closed the game much beforehand.”The Pune coach also spoke of Didier Zokora, who captained the side on Saturday, and Eugeneson Lyngdoh in glowing terms. “Didier is a fabulous player and he’s my captain. He’s special. From the moment he’s walked in, he’s been exceptional. Eugene is brilliant. I am glad to have him back. He has a quality that is exceptional and he’s a delight to work with. His feet are so clean, you could eat your dinner off of it. But I don’t want to eulogize any players because tonight I thought that all 11 players were exceptional and so were the substitutes that came on. But not only them, the attitude in the club is right,” Platt said.
